YMCA of Central Texas will Reopen with Limited Hours

After closing its facilities on March 15, 2020 due to safety concerns and Governor Abbott’s stay-at-home order surrounding the spread of COVID-19, the YMCA of Central Texas will reopen its Doris Miller Family YMCA and Waco Family YMCA on May 18, 2020. The reopening will be conducted under the guidance of state and local health authorities and will take place in phases.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The YMCA of Central Texas is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all. For the safety and comfort of those who are in our facility, participating in our programs, or on our grounds, we ask individuals to act in a manner that upholds our guiding principles of honesty, responsibility, caring and respect at all times. Members are encouraged to respectfully voice concerns regarding their personal comfort and safety. In order to carry out the membership policies detailed below, the Y asks that members identify themselves to staff when asked. Guest privileges have been suspended at this time.

PHASE I

REQUIREMENTS FOR PERSONAL SAFETY AND SOCIAL DISTANCING AS MANDATED BY MINIMUM STANDARD HEALTH PROTOCOLS:

  • Forehead thermometer temperature scans may be required of all individuals entering the facility.

  • When entering the building, patrons must wash or disinfect their hands.

  • Under state guidelines, all members are required to wear gloves that cover your entire hand, while in the facility.

  • Members are highly encouraged to wear face masks/coverings when not working out.

  • For your protection, cleaning supplies are available for you to sanitize equipment before and after your use. In addition, the Y will close designated areas each day for deep cleaning.

  • Maintain a distance of no less than 6 feet from other individuals at all times.

  • Sweat towels, water bottles and other personal belongings must be kept with you at all times.

  • Stay home of you feel sick.

 

PROHIBITED ACTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Inappropriate attire. Members are expected to wear tops that cover the torso, along with shorts, pants or leggings. Swimwear is only allowed in the pool area.

  • Clothing with vulgar or profane language, symbols, or gestures.

  • Behavior that puts others health in danger including spitting.

  • Harassment, vulgarity, or intimidation by words, body language, or behavior.

  • Any demonstration of sexual activity.

  • Theft or behavior that results in destruction of property.

  • Carrying or concealing weapons, or objects that may be used as weapons.

  • Use or possession of illegal chemicals, drugs or alcohol on YMCA property.

  • Use of tobacco products or vaping on YMCA property.

  • Talking on cell phones or use of cell phone cameras in Wellness Center and Locker rooms.

  • Loitering on YMCA property.

 

SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY:

The YMCA of Central Texas conducts regular sex offender screenings on all members and participants, and guests. If a sex offender match occurs, the YMCA reserves the right to cancel membership, end program participation, and remove visitations access.

 

 

FAQ'S

 

Do I have to wear a mask?

While not required, the Y requests that members wear masks whenever possible, especially in common areas.  Staff is required to wear masks while working.

According to state guidelines members must wear gloves that cover their entire hand while working out.

 

Will you be checking temperatures before entering the Y?

Members and staff are required to have their temperature taken upon entry to the Y.  This will happen at a Safety Station located outside of the Y.

Members with a temperature of 100.4 will not be allowed to enter for the day.

Member temperatures are confidential and not kept on file by the YMCA.

 

Are there capacity limits in place?

Yes. Following guidelines from the Governor, we will have reduced capacity at each center. At times of full capacity, you will be asked to wait in a designated area until space is available.

How will physical distancing be enforced?

Signs will be posted throughout the center regarding physical distancing. Floor markers will also be used throughout the center. Equipment has been moved to allow for safe distancing during workouts. We ask that members stay at least six feet away from others when possible. Staff will be counting members in one area and will ask groups to separate if necessary.  

 

What is your cleaning protocol?

Members are asked to use the supplied disinfectant before and after they use the exercise equipment. Staff will be cleaning high touch surface areas every 30 minutes. Areas of the building will be closed throughout the day to allow a more detailed cleaning. The facility will be deep cleaned nightly.

How do I know it is safe to come back?

We are doing everything possible to keep our Ys safe and clean, but only you can make the decision what is right for you.  We are cleaning high contact surfaces every 30 minutes, asking members to wipe down equipment before and after each use, staff are required to wear face masks, we are asking members also following this guideline whenever possible, hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the Y. 

 

What can I bring into the Y? 

We ask that you only bring a mask, workout towel, and a filled bottle of water. We will not be able to store belongings at the Welcome Desk and our lockers will be at a reduced capacity as well. Under state guidelines the locker room facilities will not be opened during Phase I of the re-opening.

  

I put my membership on hold, how do I reactivate it?

You can fill out a form at the front desk, but we are encouraging contactless methods. Please send an email to ymcahelp@ymcactx.org and let us know you want to reactivate your membership.    

 

I have credits owed to me from the closure, can it be applied to the next draft of my membership dues?

If you wish to have any portion of your fees refunded, please contact us at ymcahelp@ymcactx.org and let us know.

 

I continued paying my membership dues during the closure as a sustaining member, when will I get my tax deductible letter?

We will send out the tax letters within the next 90 days.

 

I don't want to come back when the Y opens, what can I do with my membership?

You can put your membership on hold for up to three months.  This will stop all drafts.  When you are ready to return, contact us at ymcahelp@ymcactx.org to reactivate your membership.

You may also cancel your membership, but we would love it if you chose to stay with us!!  For any changes in your membership contact us at ymcahelp@ymcactx.org.

 

I want to come back but I can no longer afford my membership rate, what can I do? 

Please come into our facility and ask to speak with someone about our scholarships and financial aid.  We will happily help you out.

 

When will summer camp programs begin? 

We do know we will have summer camps this year. We do not know yet when they will start. We will be communicating our summer camp process in the near future. 

  

In your Phase 1 plan, what will be available when you open?

Tentative Phases as dictated by government mandate including capacity limitations 

  • Phase 1, the following areas will be open:
    • Wellness Center including cardio, selectorized weights and free weights.  We will also have space in the Adult Gym for individual workouts. Parking lot Bootcamp 9am M-F (Bring your own mat and water)
    • Pool (lap swimming only, one person per available lane)
  • Phase 2 
    • Group Exercise limited indoor classes; Therapy Pool Open for limited individual exercise (no open play, must maintain social distancing)
  • Phase 3
    • Expand Group Exercise schedule
    • Add Aquatic Group Exercise
    • Locker rooms to open when allowed by government mandate
    • Youth Sports to begin when allowed by government mandate
    • Outdoor pool, steam room, sauna, whirlpool, open basketball, childwatch and gameroom to open when social distancing restrictions are lifted

 

Will Child Watch be available?

No. During Phase 1, Child Watch will not be available based on social distancing guidelines. We ask that children under the age of 12 stay at home during Phase 1. 

Only children 12 and up can work out in the wellness center without a parent.

Children 12-17 must come with a parent and the parent must stay on site until temperature check is complete.

 

Will there be a time limit using equipment? 

Yes. To ensure all members are able to enjoy the facility, we will be limiting cardio equipment usage to 45 minutes and we encourage members to keep their visits to under 90 minutes to allow all members an opportunity to use the facility. 

 

Are the pools open?

Yes. Our pools will be open. Pools will only be open for lap swimming with one person per lane, there will be no swim lessons or aquatic group exercise classes.  The therapy pool will also be available for individual water exercise.  Members must maintain social distancing in the pool at all times.

 

When will youth activities start again (swim lessons, sports, etc.)?

Youth activities will start as dictated by state and local guidelines. When we are allowed to offer sports and lessons we will.  

 

Can I resume with personal training that I had already purchased?

No. Personal training will not resume in Phase 1. PT will be available in Phase 2.

 

Can I bring a guest with me?

No. During Phase 1, only active members will be able to access the Y. Due to the Governor's guidelines we are operating on reduced capacity. When social distancing guidelines and capacity requirements are relaxed we will be able to invite guests into the facilities.

 

When will group exercise classes be available in the center again?

Group Exercise classes will start in Phase 1, with a reduced capacity and physical distance limitations. At Waco Family, the first week we are open, we will begin with an outdoor workout once a day at 9am, the following week we will expand to classes inside that require little to no equipment.  In several weeks we will begin to add more classes as we are able.  Please check the website and the app for the current schedule. We are still offering virtual workouts on our Facebook.
