BEFORE - 315 lbs. AFTER - 185 lbs.
YMCA Staff,
I just wanted to share my success story with the ones that changed my life. I was always an overweight person. I played offensive and defensive lineman in high school, so naturally I had to be a big person. As I entered into my adult life, I did not change my eating habits. I also did not do any sort of exercise. In high school I was about 280 lbs with muscle and fat. I got married when I was 19 to my beautiful wife, Jennifer. I did not have time to exercise, and I was not making very good decisions for eating.
About 7 years ago, I weighed about 315 lbs. I had no energy. Someone that I worked with told me about some diet pills. I lost about 80 pounds in a year. I stopped taking them, and then I went back to my regular routine. I had gained almost all of the weight back. I had since switched jobs and had regular work hours. My wife and I had joined the YMCA. She had lost a lot of weight by running and taking different classes. I would still come home and sit in my recliner. I was sitting there one day, and she told me how fat I looked just sitting there. This is when the real action began.
Before, I was not using my YMCA membership very often. I think I abuse it now. I started walking and running on the treadmill. After a few months I was only running. I started getting faster and running longer. I started to compete with myself on 5 mile times. My wife introduced me to body shaping classes with Terri Garza. I was running and doing body shaping 5 days a week. I was dropping the weight so fast. I had also added Jenny Hering's body shaping class on Saturday morning. I also started doing Turbokick classes, which I think is the best cardio workout ever. I have been doing this for about 3 years now. With all of these workouts, it inspired me to run a marathon. In January 2010, I ran the full Miracle Match Marathon. I think that was the biggest challenge of my life. I have lost from 315 lbs to 185 lbs. I owe it all to my wife, the YMCA, and the YMCA staff.
I wanted to take this time and thank each and every one of you for changing my life for the better. I also wanted to share my success story so that maybe someone else can change their life like I did.
